Who Requires the Use of FESTF Data?

FESTF data are important to any company having a registered pesticide product that is used outdoors and where risk assessment of its use shows that exposure to organisms potentially exceeds EPA’s endangered species levels of concern (predicted exposure levels that are assumed to potentially cause an adverse effect). A product may be predicted to affect one or many taxonomic groups of organisms, in one or more use sites. The assessment of the interaction between species and the product is evaluated by examining, on a county-level basis, how or if the endangered species and use intersect. Such detailed evaluation is only possible using a system to organize it (the IMS) and accumulated data on species locations and attributes (NatureServe Data).

An affected company will know it must develop or rely upon endangered species data if:

  • Conditions for the submission of endangered species data are placed on a new or amended registration
  • Reregistration pre-RED science chapters identify endangered species level of concern exceedences
  • Newly developed registrations (new product or new uses) trigger endangered species concerns
